Denver Broncos Quarterback

Broncos Quarterbacks: A History

The Journeyman Quarterback

The quarterback question is the bottom line of the Denver Broncos offseason. Coach Sean Payton benched Russell Wilson, and the journeyman quarterback emerged as the team's starter after beating out incumbent Drew Lock in training camp. How he fared in Denver is a matter of debate, but there's no question that he brought a level of stability to the position that had been lacking in recent years.

The Russell Wilson Era

The Russell Wilson era ended on Monday after the Broncos told the quarterback that they plan on releasing him after two seasons. Wilson was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022, but he never lived up to expectations in Denver. He threw for just 5,446 yards and 35 touchdowns in 24 games with the Broncos, and he led the team to a disappointing 5-12 record in 2023.

The Broncos are now looking for a new quarterback, and they have several options. They could sign a free agent, trade for a quarterback, or draft one in the upcoming NFL Draft. Whoever they choose, they need to find someone who can provide stability and leadership to the team.
