Storm Path and Timeline
Ernesto formed from a tropical wave on August 24, 2006, and became a tropical storm the following day.
The storm strengthened into a hurricane on August 27, and reached its peak intensity as a Category 1 hurricane on August 28.
Ernesto weakened to a tropical storm on August 29 and made landfall near the North Carolina-South Carolina border on August 31.
The storm dissipated on September 4.
Impacts
Ernesto caused widespread flooding in Haiti, where it directly killed at least seven people.
In the United States, Ernesto brought heavy rainfall to the southeastern states, causing flash flooding and power outages.
The storm also spawned several tornadoes, which caused additional damage.
