Urban and Regional Transport: Rhineland-Palatinate Orders 26 Electric Buses

Rheinland-Palatinate modernizes its bus fleet and relies on e-mobility

A total of 26 electric buses will be gradually put into operation in various cities and districts in Rhineland-Palatinate this year

The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel (VRM) has ordered 26 electric buses from the Polish manufacturer Solaris, which will be gradually put into operation in various cities and districts in Rhineland-Palatinate this year. The buses will be used on regional routes and in urban areas. The total order volume is around 20 million euros.

The buses are 12 meters long and offer space for up to 80 passengers. They are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offer a high level of comfort for passengers. The electric buses are powered by batteries that are charged overnight at the bus depots. The range of the buses is up to 350 kilometers, which is sufficient for a full day of operation.

The VRM is responsible for the coordination of public transport in the Rhine-Mosel region. The VRM is committed to sustainable mobility and wants to make a significant contribution to climate protection with the new electric buses. The buses will replace older diesel buses and help to reduce emissions in the region.

The federal government supports the purchase of the new electric buses with funds from the Electric Bus Funding Guideline. The funding guideline is part of the National Electromobility Development Plan and aims to promote the use of electric buses in local public transport.

Benefits of electric buses

  • Zero emissions
  • Quiet operation
  • Lower operating costs
  • Increased passenger comfort

Outlook

The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel plans to purchase more electric buses in the coming years. The goal is to convert the entire bus fleet to electric buses by 2030. This would make the Rhine-Mosel region one of the first regions in Germany to have a completely emission-free bus fleet.
